1st September as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

Writer: AnneleAnnele

Pope Francis has established 1st September as the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation encouraging the Catholic community around the world to pray for our common home.

This ecumenical day of prayer launches what is called the Season of Creation, celebrated every year from Sept. 1 through Oct. 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

Pope Francis invites people, with the help of God’s grace, to lower their waste production and consumption, to be mindful about their habits and economic decisions, to use resources with moderation and sobriety, to recycle, and to make greater use of sustainable options.

As well as transforming our own hearts and lifestyles, the Holy Father calls us to seek to transform public policies and to "raise our voices to halt injustice towards the poor and towards our children, who will bear the worst effects of climate change.
